GM thought they could defeat ASOTRECOL by making them give up out of desperation...

Instead workers, retirees, unions, churches & community organizations have stood with these workers, helping them cover basic costs and standing in solidarity at every moment.

From passing resolutions to protesting in front of GM headquarters, autoshows & dealerships, countless people have stood in solidarity with ASOTRECOL. Organizations have invited ASOTRECOL president, Jorge Parra, to meetings and have hosted speaking tours. Supporters have even purchased shares and taken over a GM shareholder’s meeting, letting GM know that this issue is not going away until the workers are made whole.

Description

The UAW was formed in 1935 in large part because autoworkers in the US faced severe unsafe working conditions. Their sitdowns at GM plants in Flint forced management on February 11, 1937 to recognize the union and bargain a contract. Likewise, ASOTRECOL is demanding GM’s recognition and a “contract” to settle their long-standing dispute. On this February 11th, we are asking for social media statements of support, whether a photo or a tweet, a video or a haiku, on – or leading up to – Wednesday, February 11th. We are very grateful to the UAW for its support in working to bring our struggle across the finish line.
